Excerpt 2
“I’ve found that people often realize things about their own lives while telling other people about them. Sometimes, when describing one’s life and then hearing what they think about it, you achieve a different perspective on events that can lend a clarity to your own problems. Sometimes, the other person can’t offer anything helpful about your life. Some things are just...
I think Radiohead peaked with In Rainbows
The album is perfect. I still haven’t got into The King Of Limbs. I like the name concept (I do love names) and I don’t dislike anything on it yet. Just can’t avoid listening to 15 Step or Jigsaw Falling Into Place if I start listening to Radiohead, and I never get away from In Rainbows or OK Computer after that.
Excerpt
“The people I meet are some of the worst examples of what humanity can be. Vapid copies of Entertainment Weekly, wrapped in glitter and designer makeup that just hides who they could be, who they are, with what they want to be. Trying to fill in that hole where personality goes and hide their insecurities by diving headfirst into whatever stereotype they think they should be. It’s rare...

I love names
I keep doing this. I know it doesn’t matter, since no one ever looks up the meanings of names (except me), but I almost always name major characters with a consideration for the meaning or root of their name.
For a character that won’t divulge her name, but was first discovered as an angry girl with a knife in a dark house and reappears across town inside a locked room as if by...

I hate that feeling when you feel your cheeks and know you’ll have to shave in the morning. That delicate balance between ruggedly unshaven and homeless is difficult to maintain.
However, I do take the time to do the Home Alone scene with the aftershave. Awesome movie. I lived vicariously through them during my childhood, praying for the day I might mutilate some guys with my Dad’s...
I’m not getting glasses because I need them. I’m creating an escape hatch from reality. Whenever I want to lower my standards, I can just take off my glasses.

I walk into my house
and Samuel Barber’s Adagio For Strings is playing loudly. With no one home.
Strange
If you’re not familiar with that piece, please look it up on youtube or something. It’s a truly beautiful and haunting piece of music. Perhaps one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. Even Chopin would have a hard time keeping up. Barber won the Pulitzer Prize. Twice. He...

I love stumbling across good movies
Bunraku. I think this is one of those movies that I can’t really defend. If you don’t like it, I can understand why. I myself, thought it was thoroughly original and entertaining reinvention of a common theme. A paper mache-type world for each and every set. It’s this bizarre mix between Gene Kelly’s song and dance world and a martial arts western. And it works.
That first drop of blood changes everything. Carrying an undeniable intention,...

It's almost that magical time of year
By which I mean February.
First, I’ll list what I think should win the award for foreign film of the year, but probably won’t. I Saw The Devil. A truly great Korean film with an excellent cast and some truly vicious scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The amount of “oh shit” moments make it quite a ride.
Limitless: An interesting movie that I thought was fairly good....
50/50
Is definitely on my list for movie of the year. A truly moving screenplay translated expertly to the screen by the cast. I loved it. I don’t think I’ve been so impressed with any other film this year.

Like getting bitch-slapped by God
Our house only has the requisite shotgun in it. The family is familiar and unafraid of firearms though, my uncle being the closest family member with an arsenal of weapons. I’ve intended to get a handgun for concealed carry for awhile, but it would probably never leave the car if even the house. I don’t think I would ever really feel comfortable somewhere with a pistol in the small of...
